On Leeam’s 6th birthday, he wanted to learn how to play the piano. He said the Black and White keys remind him of chess.
Here is his first piano session. Not exactly Chopin but he sure had fun 🙂

this is so much fun =)
What a great birthday gift, Susan! If anything else besides chess can develop the growing brain, music is it. The teacher did the right thing by telling Liam to play only the black keys, so every note he touched sounded right.
So after I saw that bit of fun I looked at the DVD video and all of a sudden I noticed there was a video of your National Geographic filming at Tompkins Square Park.
So I clicked on it and….WOW, there I was looking like I almost knw how to move the chess pieces against a Grandmaster!!
What a treat!!! Made me smile.
Thank you for that Susan!!
Speaking of things I am thankful for that is definetly one of them.
Happy Thanksgiving ! I can’t wait to show that to my daughter in the morning.

Much better than I’d ever do on my first lesson. 🙂
A very interesting idea !
I never associated chess with piano music, but the more I think about it the more I like it. A good game may be like a piano suite from Bach.
It is an observation by some strong chess players of the modern time that Paul Morphy was not a strong chess player as he is usually considered.
Those chess players should know that when Paul Morphy crushed all his opponents, there was no theory of chess or written books or computers in those days. Paul Morphy brought those chess laws and got the attention of the very strong chess players to follow his laws. One British chess player Barnes, who gave tough time to Morphy but again the latter’s wins were dominantly more than over Barnes.
Paul Morphy is a school of chess and we all chess players in the world are the student in that school.
