whites only chance is to let black get a queen then try and promote that e pawn by using his knight to attack blacks king. id sure rather be black in this position thats for sure.
The only way is to bring the knight up to support promotion of the e-pawn. There will be check on g7 and check as the pawn moves to e7 and check as the pawn queens. From there simple mop-up work will win for white.
It doesn’t seem so simple to me. What if King goes to f8 instead of d8 upon Ng7+ ? It looks more like a draw by repetition to me. Not positive, but 1.Ng7+ Kf8 2.e7+ Kg8 3. e8=Q+ Kh7 4.Qg6+ Kh8…now what? I’m sure I’m missing something, but I don’t see a mate necessarily.
Nice position, and the win is not really routine. A mate rather than a simple mop-up is needed. After 1.Ne3 a2 2.Nf5 a1=Q 3.Ng7+, the best choice for black is Kf8 (3…Kd8 allows mate in 2). Then 4.e8=Q+ Kh7 5.Qg6+ Kh8! (Kg8 mate in two) and white should not fall for 6.Nf5 or Nf8 or Nxh5, losing to Qc6+. Instead, 6.Ne6! or 6.Kf7 and mate soon. (E.g., 6.Kf7 Qf1+ 7.Nf5 Qxc4+ Kf8 and no more checks).
Corrected moves: Nice position, and the win is not really routine. A mate rather than a simple mop-up is needed. After 1.Ne3 h2 2.Nf5 h1=Q 3.Ng7+, the best choice for black is Kf8 (3…Kd8 allows mate in 3). Then 4.e7+ Kg8 5.e8=Q+ Kh7 6.Qg6+ Kh8! N to e3, f5 (or maybe d5), g7 check followed by P to e7 check and then queens w/ check.
Nd4 h2
Nf5 h1
Ng7+ Kd8
e7 Qf1+

Great endgame problem!

Do the solutions ever get published here?
I tred to solve a few but need to see the solutions to go further…

Duncan,
Unless no one gets it right, I usually do not publish the solutions. So far, it seems that a few usually get it right every night 🙂
Best wishes,

1.Ne3 h2
2.Nf5 h1Q
3.Ng7+ Kf8
4.e7+ Kg8
5.e8Q+ Kh7
6.Qg6+ Kh8
7.Ne6 Qf3+
8.Ke7 Qg4
9.Qf6+ Kg8
10.Ng5!(clave) and mate soon

Anonymous above; is 7.Kf7 not quicker than 7.Ne6? Mate is threatened on h6 and if 7…Qf3+ simply 8. Nf5.

King.
My apologies… you are right 7…Qf1+ is better than 7…Qf3+
Good accurate analysis.
