Fabiano survived an 82 move endgame with the Black pieces against former FIDE World Champion Kasimdzhanov to capture the 2007 Hogeschool Zeeland tournament. In spite of a loss to IM Appel in the last round, Sebag did break the 2500 mark and earned herself a GM norm. With the win, Appel earned himself a tie for 1st (3rd on tie break) and a GM norm. FM De Jong scored an IM norm.

Congratulations to Fabiano! Well done!
IM Caruana, Fabiano 7.5 ITA 2549 2715
will he always be an Italian player or is there a chance he will play for USA.
I am a little frustrated that the USA allows good players to leave America for countries that support their players. We have done so little for Kamsky and Nakamura and many others. America is suppose to be the richest country in the world. Something is wrong in America. Just my opinion.
“Sebag did break the 2500 mark and earned herself a GM norm.”
I have always thought that the gm norm is above 2600 🙂
watch out, Magnus!
Re jerzy’s comment: Sebag had a performance rating of 2604. Evidently that will push her FIDE rating above 2500.
Also :IM Caruna?
Isn’t he GM with ELO well over 2500?
Fabiano Caruana has already earned the GM title; it should be awarded at the next FIDE Congress.
I’m happy to see Marie Sebag get a GM norm, and a FIDE rating above 2500 is a separate requirement. For the life of me, though, I can’t figure how FIDE calculates the opponents’ average rating in an event like this, where some players might be very low rated or unrated.
