In the last few years, Dr. Korenman successfully got around $300,000 in various grants for chess. He created the Karpov School of Chess and the Chess for Peace program with former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev, Anatoly Karpov and me. This received worldwide media attention. He organized countless MAJOR events for scholastic, college, adult and top-level professional players. Few if any of the candidates in the upcoming USCF election has a resume like this.
He recently moved to Chicago and he is at it again. He just received an offer from a school where he is currently teaching to create a major chess program. He will be Director of Professional Development and he also teaches 3 official chess classes every day! About 25% of total student population at school will have chess lessons. In addition, the school will pay for 10 students to go to Atlanta for the Nationals, plus they will run local tournaments every quarter. The total school budget for chess will be between $40,000 and $50,000 per year! This is incredible for a school with only 175 students! This would not happen without Dr. Korenman.
This is why I highly recommended Dr. Korenman in the upcoming USCF election. He is not a chess politician. Instead of talking and making blank promises, he delivers one successful program after another. He is one of the most qualified individuals in America to help bring chess to the forefront. Well done Misha!
“and he also teaches 3 official chess classes every day!”
Is Mikhail Korenman a master level player? does he have a USCF or FIDE rating?
Anyways, well done to Mr. Korenman for his active role in the chess community! He has my vote.
He got my vote a week ago. I would have liked to see this story back then when my friends were asking me to tell them more about Mikhail. I could have pointed them to this story.
He is truely a super chess person. I really hope he gets elected. He is so quiet that some people do not know much about him. He did not campaign with a big bang.
I am sick and tired of the loud mouths would do nothing. Korenman is my kind of guy.
