Dos Hermanas – A Ringside Seat
The 9th Internet Chess Tournament “Ciudad de Dos Hermanas” continues to break all records here on ICC! We had a 10% increase on last year’s figures with a total of 5455 players participating in the 12 qualifiers. Not only that, but in qualifier 5, we smashed the all-time Dos Hermanas attendance record (553, set in 2004) at a staggering 583!
Those near week-long 12 qualifiers soon whittled the field down though to the final 32 (12 winners and 20 top finishers) who will battle it out for the $13,000 (approx. 7,700 Euro) main prize fund, with the knockout finals held 4-5 April here again at ICC (http://www.chessclub.com/) starting at 3:00 pm EDT.
From 32, we’re now down to the final eight for Saturday’s final, and the cosmopolitan field includes: GM Hikaru Nakamura (USA), GM Zaven Andriasyan (Armenia), GM Ronen Har-Zvi (Israel), GM Yaroslav Zinchenko (Ukraine), GM Baadur Jobava (Georgia), GM Dmitry Konoenko (Ukraine), GM Michele Godena (Italy), and last year’s defending champion, Jorge Sammour-Hasbun (Palestine), again the only untitled player in the final!
You can get your ringside seat for the eight-player shoot-out final here on ICC on Saturday, 5 April, starting at 3:00pm EDT. You can also follow the results and download the games from all the qualifiers and finals at our dedicated Dos Hermanas result and info page.
