Cuban Leinier Domínguez 13th Place in World Ranking
Havana, Jul 1 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Great Master Leinier Dominguez appeared to be in the 13th place of the world ranking, published by the International Chess Federation (FIDE).Dominguez, winner in the Grand Prix in the city of Salonica, Greece, is showing an ELO of 2,757 points, a record for Cuban chess players of all categories.
With his victory in Salonica, the Cuban Great Master added 30 points more to his ELO to break a record of 2,734 gotten by him in two playing chances in the last season.
Dominguez came to the 13th place of the world ranking coming from the 20th, which he had obtained in October and December 2012.
His comrade, Cuban Great Master Lazaro Bruzon, is in the 57th place, with 2,689 points ELO, and Peruvian Julio Granda is in the 67th with 2,679 points.
These are the three Latin American chess players with the highest location in the world ranking (100 best in the world).
The world ranking is led by Norwegian Magnus Carlsen (2,862 points), ahead of Armenian Levon Aronian (2,813), Italian Fabiano Caruana (2,796) and Russian Vladimir Kramnik (2,784), Alexander Grischuk (2,780) and Serguey Karjakin.
The list of the 10 best chess players in the world is completed with Japanese-origin US player Hikaru Nakamura (2,775), Indian and World Champ Viswanathan Anand (2,775), Israeli Boris Gelfand (2,773) and Bulgarian Veselin Topalov (2,767).
