White stops black from queening but I do not see how white makes further progress in position.
Quite right. 3.Nf8+ Kh8 is a blind alley after which White must regroup with 4.Ng6+ Kh7 5.Ne5 (and not fall into a three-time repetition, either). 4.Ne6? fumbles the win, because it allows Black to hide his king on h8 free from the threat of g5-g6, Kf8, and Nf7#.
get the king so that it cant go to h7 anymore by way of knight checks and then swing the knight over to the catch the a-pawn (it is catchable) and then use the white king to force the black king out of the corner and get the g-pawn
Thats a tricky one. I think, i found a winning line:
1.Kf7 a4
2.Ng6+ Kh7
3.Ne5 a3
4. g6+ Kh6 (Kh8 5.Kf8 and Nf7#)
5.Ng4+ Kg5
6.Ne3 a2
7.Nc2 and the knight stopps the a-pawn in time
Tobe
1.Kf7 a4 2.Nd3 a3 3.Nb4 Kh7 4.Na2 g6 5.Nb4
“1.Kf7 a4 2.Nd3 a3 3.Nb4 Kh7 4.Na2 g6 5.Nb4”
black isnt forced to play 4. g6. After 4… Kh8 white cant make any progress. Blacks king stays in the corner.
Tobe,
That looks good but I am not sure it is sufficient. What if black does not play 6 .. a2 and instead moves the king back to h6, protecting his pawn?!

Tobe’s got it. 6…Kh6 7.Nc2 a2 8.Na1 and White’s a winner.
Interesting to note that according to tablebases, only 1.Kf7! wins.
hey guys…
Interesting try would be …
Kf7 a4
Ng6 Kf7
Nf8 Kh8
Ne6 a3
Nd4 a2
Nb3
White stops black from queening but I do not see how white makes further progress in position.
Kf7 a4
