December 24 chess tactic Chess tactic, Puzzle Solving White to move. How should White proceed? Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
Hi susan,
How r u??? Well, in the problem, i would gp with Bf5…..
Black’s any move will be waste here….
1…..-B*f5 2.R*f8+
1…..-g*f5 2.Qg5+
1……-R*f1 2.Qd8+
1.Bxg6, Rf8 (2… Bd7 3. Bf5)
2.Bxf8, hxg6 (2… fxg6 3.Re8)
3.Qe8, Kh7
4.Te4, g5
5.Qxg5 1-0
I didn’t check it on the board, but I guess it must be this! 🙂
1. Bxg6 Re1 (fxg6 2.Re8 Kf7 3.Qe7#)
2. Qd8
If 1…Qe5, then
2. Rxe5 dxe5
3. Qf6 with no way to prevent mate
Bf5 Be6 is unclear
Bg6 wins outright
1.Bxg6 Bd7 1.Bxg6 Rf8
2.Bf5 f6 2.Bxf7+ Kxf7
3.Rxe8 Bxe8 3.Qh5+ Kf6
4.Be6+ Bf7 4.Qg5+ Kf7
5.Qh5 5.Re7++
1.Bxg6 Bd7 2.Bf5 f6 3.Qg4+ Kf7
4.Qh5+ Kg8 5.Rxf8
Oh! Anonymous 12:29 is right… I missed an easy mate! :o)
1.Bxg6, Rf8
2.Bxf7+, Kxf7
3.Re7+, Kg8
4.Qg5+, Qg7
5.Qxg7++
In my previous wrong solution, after 3.Qd8 Black can check with 3… Qxh3+ but it’s still lost:
3.Qd8 Qxh3+
4.Kg1 and now:
If 4…Qd7 5.Qf6!
If 4…Be6 5.exf6
If 4…Bg4 5.Te8
With an easy win!
The line I calculated was:
1.Bxg6 Bd7 (other moves lose quickier. Ex: 1…Rf8
2.Bxf7+ Kxf7 (2….Rxf7 3.Re8+ mates) 3.Re7+ kg8 4.Qg5+ mates. Or.1….Qe5 2.Qf6 and wins)
2.Bf5 (This move took me a while to see. I was first toying with the idea of 2.Bxf7+ kxf7 3.Qh5+ Kf6 but couldn’t find anything for white. Then the idea of 3.Bf5 threating 4.Qg5+ and mate on g7 made everything else smooth)
3……. f6
3.RxR+BxR
4.Be6+ Bf7
5.Qh5! Qg7
6.BxQ KxQ
7.QxB+ Kh6
8.Qxf6+ Kh5
9.Bf7#
henryk:
why play 5.Qh5 (and I wouldn’t add exlamation mark here as u did…)
when u can simply play
5.Qg4+ and mate next move ?
What about the move
1.Bg5
1. Bg5 is too slow, black is a rook and pawns up, and he can play 2.. Nd7 or 2.. Qe5 3. Bf6 Qh5
And white will simply loose because of material balance.
White will definitely win. First move is Bxg6
1….. Rf8
2.Bxf7+ Rxf7 [2….. Kxf7
3.Re8+ Rf8 3.Re7+ Kg6 or Kg8
4.Rxf8+ 1-0 4.Qg5+ 1-0]
If 1…. Bd7
2.Bf5 and now no way to prevent mate.
If 1…. Rxe1
2.Qd8+
