Cuban GM Bruzon Scores High in Chess World List
Berna, Apr 30 (Prensa Latina) Cuban GM Lazaro Bruzon officially improved today his elo scores in the recent Chess World’s List update and as expected he is on the list with 2,711 units to rank 34th.
However, Leinier Dominguez remains leader of Latin America in place 23rd now with 2,725 points.
Young Norway GM Magnus Carlsen, 22 years, crowns the list with 2,835 points, Armenia Levon Aronian (2,825) and Russia Vladimir Kramnik (2,801).
They remain as the only ones to break the magic 2,800-point barrier. World Champion -India Viswanathan Anand (2,791)- comes fourth with fewer competitions in the past weeks.
Latin America just has a fourth chess player among the top 100th, Peruvian Julio Granda who is 95th in the list.
In the qualification by country and in ten best players’ list, Russia accumulates 2,747 units, and Cuba commands Latin America in place 17th.
ELO rating calculates the players’ skills and performance per contest, meaning each players’ score will improve only beating a better ranking rival.
The system invented as an improved ranking indicator for the two-contender board game has been extended today to basketball and football.
