SAN DIEGO (June 18) – Tiger Woods is done for the year, but not without one last major that he said might have been his best ever.
Woods explained why Wednesday when he revealed he will have season-ending surgery to repair a torn ligament in his left knee that he injured 10 months ago.
He also suffered a double stress fracture of his left tibia two weeks before the U.S. Open, ignoring doctors’ advice to take six weeks off to let it heal. And he still won the U.S. Open at Torrey Pines, going 91 holes over five days on a knee that was getting worse.

It was an amazing display of courage. He’s the best who ever played golf.
In a fantasy-baseball league among friends I posted a message/poll titled
“Guts or Nuts?”
I ended with: So what we witnessed this past weekend— Was it a stirring performance against all adversity by the game’s all-time best player, the Bobby Fischer of golf? Or was it the star-blessed shambling of a monomaniacal madman who heeds no advice, the Bobby Fischer of golf?
Metally or technically – Bobby Fischer has no comparison with Tiger Woods. Tiger Woods is a superman, but not Bobby Fischer. Bobby Fischer was defeated by himself, but never will Tiger Woods !
Courage or stupidity? Or both?
Kerry Von Erich began rehabbing his foot too early against doctor’s orders after a motorcycle accident and ended up reinjuring and then losing the foot. If you’ve got a fractured tibia, sit home and recover.
It is not ‘courage’ to play a game of golf at risk to your long-term health. It is just stupid and the worst possible example for young people.
We should say ‘oh how brave’? Give me a break, there are plenty people doing brave things without being so obsessed with winning.

Lets hope Mr. Carlsen doesn’t miss any. He makes everybody want to play.

He does! I play with myself all of the time!
Courage, bravery or stupidity, neither here nor there. There is a saying health is wealth so i guess maybe Tiger should not have played.
I do not consider this a good example for other people. Proper action was to seek medical help and follow that advice. Injuring yourself to win some money or ego is not proper decision making.
As Ken Regan said I believe it was closer to:
Or was it the star-blessed shambling of a monomaniacal madman who heeds no advice……
“Guts or Nuts?”
Definitely NUTS.
