Norwegian TV set the standard for TV coverage of chess. The chess TV fever has now reached it’s neighbour – Sweden.
Sweden’s best chess player Nils Grandelius challenges USA:s super talent Sam Sevian in a duel. The match will be broadcast live on Expressen TV on January 5 at 8.30 PM CET. – I have received an extremely positive response from the swedish media company Expressen, and there is every chance that it will be an exciting broadcasting with invited guests in the studio, says Ingemar Falk, chairman of Rilton committee. Expressen launches TV in full scale right now and has had upwards of 5 million showed TV clips of the week this fall. – Chess is ideal as a format for the new trend of “slow-TV”, and Norwegian TV has demonstrated how successful chess is as a TV sport. It’s exciting that Expressen wants to go in for chess in swedish TV. If Expressen reaches good audience ratings we’ll see where this is going, says Ingemar Falk. The broadcast will be sent at www.expressen.se at 8.30 PM CET January 5.
