Azerbaijan has Rajdabov, Gashimov and Memedyarov. They may have a 4th, but I’m going to count Kasparov anyway just to be sure.
Armenia keep winning the team events, but I always notice how their players are in the 2600s, so I’m not going with them.
Apart from that I can only think maybe Hungary. Polgar, Leko and Almasi are definites. I don’t know another, but I’ll guess Hungary (partly as the reason for Susan posing the question!)
So I’m going to say Russia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Hungary – 4 countries only.
Does “imported” mean players who went to the country after reaching 2700, or does it include players like H Nakamura who reached 2700 many years after arriving in the country?
Oh and I forgot that Susan asked that Q question. I count Kasparov for Azerbaijan. Now we have: Hungary: Polgar, Leko, Almasi, Berkes Azerbaijan: Kasparov, Radjabov, Gashimov, Mamedyarov Ukraine: Ivanchuk, Ponomariov, Moiseenko, Efimenko China: Wang, Li, Wang, Bu Russia, a lot (at the moment 12)
China has barely 2 at the moment. Bu and Ni are not coming back to 2700 anytime soon. But I am surprized people missed Hungary..Leko/Polgar/Berkes and Almasi
No. I cannot do it.
Definitely Russia and Ukraine.

And now I’m off to look at the rating list!
Anonymous 2:19:00, thank you for that very informative contribution to the forum.

Nakamura is an American citizen from birth. His mother is American. So I do not count him as import 🙂
Best wishes,
Susan
If Kasparov is from Azerbaijan we have 4 from there as well. So Azerbaijan, Ukraine, Russia and China
