Chess players match wits at Ramirez Charter School
BY ERIC FINLEY
Mark Flores had a plan. And it sounded good too, right up to the point where he got beat.
The 11-year old chess player at Ramirez Charter School decided he would trap his opponents’ queen. But like so many things in life, it didn’t work out like that.
He moved a pawn. Tommy Polgar moved the queen.
That was it.
“Check mate,” Tommy said, as he extended a 7-year old hand across the table in condolence.
There was no shame in losing to a team of Tommy and his mom, Susan Polgar. None of the other 70 or so who tried during a simultaneous exhibition at Ramirez on Wednesday afternoon beat them either.
Here is the full story. Here is the link to many pictures from the event.
Nice going Tommy. Now remember to let us all know when you win a game against your mom. We all want to have a good time when you beat Mom.
LOL. I expect a long wait. But you never know.
No Fair! Two against 70!
There were so many kids that we lost count of who was playing and who was watching. The actual games played were more like 30-40. It took Susan and Tommy roughly an hour and half to finish these games. The last kid held on for 40 moves. It was his second time to play Susan so he was prepared but Tommy probably threw him off.
