Teachers Attend Chess Course

Bandar Seri Begawan – The Co-Curriculum Department of the Ministry of Education recently held a short course on chess for Brunei II and Brunei III teachers. The event was attended by over 80 teachers and officers from various schools and departments.
The guest speaker and facilitator was Brunei’s chess player, Awg Hj Zulkifli bin Pehin Penyurat Hj Awang Muhammad Salleh, who among other things shared his 18-year experience as Brunei’s national chess player. He also shared his vision of producing a Brunei Grand Master by 2013.
Also present was 22-year-old Yee Soon Wei from the Brunei Chess Federation, the current and only FIDE Master, who among others also shared his playing skills with the teachers, as well as on chess rules and regulations that are always overseen in competitions.
The short course was intended for teachers to gain more knowledge and insight for them to prepare and teach their students for the upcoming chess competition that will be held this April in all the four districts.
