A common chess improvement question I am asked all the time:
– What should I study to improve (my chess level)?
This is where the SPICE method is so different than most others. We do not have a one size fits all system. We pinpoint specific weaknesses and individualize an improvement game plan for each student. This can only be achieved by dissecting hundreds / thousands of games of each student.
When you get into your car in the morning or arrive at an airport, what is next? Where are you going? Do you know? This is a huge problem that most chess players experience. Study random chess stuff is like having no idea what is your travel destination.
No two players are alike. Each has own strengths and weaknesses, even world class players, including Carlsen, Anand, Kramnik, etc. Therefore, before you can figure out what you should focus on, you need to determine what are your biggest problems. Work on those areas first
I wish I could work on my problems, but my biggest problem is stupidity. I lose games for every reason imaginable.
