Coffee house opens doors for chess nights

Every Monday night, chess experts, intermediates and beginners gather in Saint’s Café for a warm cup of coffee and a chess game.
From 6 to 9 p.m. on Mondays, Saint’s Café, 123 W. Beaver Ave., invites chess players a chance to play with their friends or with someone new to build skills.
“We started in spring at the end of last year,” said Leah Braun, a barista at Saint’s Café. “We stayed open a couple of extra hours every Monday and put out a sign.”
The idea began when one regular customer spoke to the owner about how he played chess at another coffee shop, but he preferred the coffee at Saint’s Café. Chess Night began as an experiment to see if people would respond positively. When it did, the event continued.
A normal Chess Night hosts around 13 or 14 people, Braun (senior-journalism) said. Students from the Penn State Chess Club make up about half of the participants. The other half of chess players are older men, she said.
The chess club began attending Chess Night in addition to its normal 7 p.m. Thursday meeting in the HUB last semester.

It’s too bad that the USCF doesn’t give a damn about covering miscellaneous chess activities around the country. They only focus on events by the biggest corrupt chess politicians Bill Goichberg and his mindless sycophants.
Ain’t this the place Topalov developed his style?
