Thanks Mayor Byron Brown and Mr. Michael Mc Duffie! Mayor Brown is very pro chess and education!! I am working with Mr. Mc Duffie to persuade the Mayor to include chess as part of the curriculum in Buffalo, New York!
Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
Are there any good articles on the web regarding chess playing and how it benefits overall education? Those arguments should be presented to middle schools and high schools, both private and public. Please email me at
shndrxn@yahoo.com
if you can direct me. I’m thinking of getting proactive on this.
Thanks, OldProf
oldprof,
I wrote a paper for my first class in the Master of Liberal Studies at the University of Minnesota a couple of years ago. It is on teaching chess in the classroom. It is published in two places–one on my website, the other on the Minnesota State Chess Association website.

Greetings oldprof,
There is some good info at educationworld.com. Just search under Chess. I am with you that Chess is a brilliant educational tool with benefit to self esteem and sportsmanship. This site will also be huge for you as Susan is THE Champion for Chess ed in the U.S. I also feel that Internet Chess on sites like ICC, USCF and Chessbase are most educational. New York State were we reside has many educational “standards” that are addressed by Chess and Internet Chess. Susan did a fantastic program with our group over ICC. We all played her in Blitz games at the local Junior college auditorium. The audience could watch each game on a giant movie screen. If I can answer any questions: johnt.kunz@yahoo.com, Director Sci-Tech Chess.
The USCF has compiled some materials on their main website. I believe you can download this collection for free.
