Century West Chess Open, a renewed Southern California Chess Federation event, was staged on 11-13th January at the Radisson LAX, 6225 West Century Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90045.
The event was FIDE rated and held in five sections: Open, Premier, Amateur, Reserve and Booster. All sections were played over 5 rounds of Swiss system. A total of 87 players competed.
WGM Tatev Abrahamyan (USA) and International Masters Dionisio Aldama (Mexico), Andranik Matikozyan (Armenia) and Zhanibek Amanov (Kazakhstan) shared the honours in the Open section with 4,0/5 points each.
Half a point behind the winners were GM Melikset Khachiyan, IM Jack Peters, IM Larry Remlinger and CM Jeremy Stein.
The 10-years old WFM Annie Wang was the convincing winner of the Premier section (U2000) with the perfect 5/5 score.
The prize fund was $$10,000 based on 165 entries and 80% of each prize was guaranteed.
Open: $$1700-750-400-300-200, U2400 400, U2200 700-300-200.
Premier (under 2000): $$750-300-200-100.
Amateur (Under 1800): $$750-300- 200-100.
Reserve (Under 1600): $$750-300-200-100.
Booster (Under 1400/unrated): $$400-200-100, U1200 150, Unr 150.
