I posted a number of times about Brownsville Chess in the past. Due to a high number of requests, here is another one. I have visited Brownsville many times and I am very impressed with the support for chess from the entire community. The recent highlights include the numerous successes of Fernando Spada and Fernando Mendez. Here is the CBS segment about these two special young men and their community.
Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
Congrats to the 2 Fernando and Brownsville.
Hmmm…
it seems they don’t like eachother?!
Rivalry like that is not good.
I always like my opponents, wheter i win or lose.
How old are you anonymous poster 11:26:00 a.m.?
These boys will be in middle school in about 14 months. It’s not uncommon for boys that age not to want to hug. It’s a machismo thing.
I have witnessed them compete against each other many times, and I have seen them interact with each other many times. They are always polite and respectful to each other. They may not be the best of friends, but they do like each other. They both give credit to each other for striving the best they can be.
