As expected, GM Alex Shabalov has captured the 2007 Frank K. Berry US Championship with the score of 7-2! He defeated GM Sergei Kudrin in the final round for the ultimate crown. Last year’s champion GM Alex Onischuk finished in clear second with 6.5 points. Congratulations to GM Shabalov!
Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
Congratulations Susan! You got the news up faster than any other news source! I don’t know how you do it but us chess fans really appreciate it! Thank you!
Congratulations, Shabba!
The USCF missed out on a great PR by not having
Shabalov be the Challenger who will then face Onischuk as the Champion in a Match for the title.
Live and Learn. Hopefully someday they will wake up at the USCF.
Shabalov and Onischuk were clearly the best all week. I think Kaidanov was also very good and IM Krush was real hard to beat all week.
Jan Ehlvest lost to Stripunsky.
Best wishes,

It didn’t continue that good like it started… but in the end GM Shabalov won – but he won close!
Next time, after a ‘5 points out of 5 rounds’ start, I want to see a perfect tournament, Mr Shabalov!
😉
Congratulations!
Jochen
Congratulations to Shabalov!
What was his performance rating for scoring 7/9?
With the exception of his first round game against an IM, it looks like Shabalov faced solid to very strong GMs in his path to victory. Hence, the criticism that lower-rated players dilute the championship seems unfounded.
I hope the Champ Shabalov will play in National Open!
