Snow and ski in the Dallas / Fort Worth area! Texas is creating a ski slope where no slope existed before and it will be ready in 2008! Amazing what technology can do! Have you ever gone skiing on artificial snow? Is it like the real thing?
Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
There are artificial surfaces for skiing. They look like a white carpet with plastic needles. But the skiing is no good on these surfaces. The other possibility is to create artificial snow. They can only work when the temperature is less than 0C/32F. Ski resorts often use snow cannons to do this. However, the snow is stickier than normal snow, and it is not nice to ski on. Give me the real thing anytime.
you ski on “artificial” snow even up in the mountains. they have snow cannons that work just like the ones on artificial slopes. they spray very fine droplets of water which freeze in the cool air. the ice crystals they make are much bigger and heavier than real snowflakes.
they keep “snowing” on the slopes and mix it with real snow, to prolong the season, to provide skiing conditions when theres more ppl skiing than the slope can take, etc. etc. so “artificial” snow is very commonplace for skiers. of course everyone would like the real snow best, but…
the snow itself would be the last thing for me to worry about. i doubt they can build a slope challenging enough – at least judging from those i have seen. and also – skiing inside an industrial roof?? bah!!
i want the sun, the wind, and a huge blue sky! i dont mind the temperatures or blizzards.
Let alone the enviromental damage that such plan will cause…
LOL, i even never skiied on real snow!!
:S
You rich people….. :/
Crazy
Why dont they just ship a ton of real snow from somewhere in the world that is snowing?
then keep the temperature low.. this would keep the real snow from melting… and we can all ski.
“Why dont they just ship a ton of real snow from somewhere in the world that is snowing? “
Wow a whole ton of snow! At 40 pounds per cubic foot that is almost 60 cubic feet of snow!
If you make you snow path a foot deep and 20 feet wide, that would give you a path 3 feet long! I bet people would abandon to rockies for the chance to ski on your idea!
How about 1000 ton?
Snow is cheap..
Are you making fun of my snow idea? For your information, I am a very smart person.
I am o contact them and let them know it would be better to haul snow from the Rockies. I bet they never thought of doing that. Artificial snow, hah! Morons.
