Vietnam bags three golds at Asian Junior Chess Championships

Vietnamese chess players won three gold medals and one bronze at the Asian Junior Chess Championships 2010 which concluded in Beijing, China, on July 14.
The three gold medals went to Nguyen Anh Khoa in the men’s U-8 category, Vu Thi Dieu Ai in the women’s U-12 and Nguyen Thi Mai Hung in the women’s U-16.
The bronze medal went to Hoang Thi Nhu Y in the women’s U-18 category.
The tournament, which opened in July 9, drew the participation of 428 chess players from 20 Asian countries, including India, Iran and Mongolia. The players competed in U-8, U-10, U-12, U-14, U-16 and U-18 categories for both men’s and women’s events.
The Chinese, Iranian and Mongolian teams also pocketed three individual gold medals each.
Last year, at the Asian Junior Chess Championships 2009, Vietnam won two individual gold medals snatched by Hoang Thi Nhu Y in the women’s U-16 and Pham Thanh Phuong Thao in the women’s U-10, and one silver and one bronze individual medal as well as a gold, two silver and a bronze team medal. (VNA)
