Mikhail Korenman and his wife Tamara visited the U.S. Championship earlier today to visit their many friends who are competing in this event. Mikhail is one of the most respected individuals in the U.S. among the chess professionals.
They found out that Anna was sick all night long. Tamara immediately visited Anna to see what she could do to help. Upon seeing Anna’s condition, they took Anna to the St. Louis University Hospital emergency room immediately. They spent the whole day with her to make sure that she is alright. They also contacted her family. She will spend the night in the hospital.
The doctors offered to perform immediate surgery. However, Anna opted to fly back to Germany right away and she will seek treatment there as she received the OK from the doctors in St. Louis. On behalf of the chess community, I wish Anna the best in her treatment and recovery!
Thank you Mikhail and Tamara for taking great care of Anna!
Thanks for this update.
It is disturbing and strange. I am sending Anna Zatonskih my wishes for her complete recovery and hopefully fast one too. WE Love you, Anna!
Best wishes

Another reason to elect Korenman the board. He cares about chess players.
Wonder if Anna opting to fly back to Germany had to do with her lacking insurance here in the U.S. and thus racking up a huge hospital bill had she had the medical procedure performed in St. Louis.
That would make sense.
Yes, thanks for the update. Its nice at least to hear that someone was there with Zatonskih, particularly being so far away from her family. Thanks to Mikhail and Tamara.
I’d also like to wish our reigning U.S Women’s champ a full and speedy recovery.
I wish Anna a full and speedy recovery!
You wil be alright soon.
Best wishes to Daniel and Anna and the rest of the family!
Does anyone actually know what’s wrong? The fact that the doctors in St Louis offered to do surgery makes me think it’s a bit more serious than a bug
If you have a health insurance in Germany (which is usually the case for people living here permanently) this will also pay for surgery in the US. The clinic would get a written confirmation to be sure that cost will be payed for.
Why not just agree that to be in hospital when your family is around you is better than being in hospital somewhere far away?
Best wishes from Germany.
