Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
when the cats take nap – the mice will play.. when the champion and challenger are focused on WC naka picks up some easy point freebies..
Naka is a pure chess talent. Dangerous to anyone who does not play like a machine ( Carlsen? )
I guess Kramnik, Karjakin, and Caruana are also distracted by the WC.
Anand deserves his WC title. He won it fair and square and defended against Kramnik, Topalov and Gelfand.Unfortunately the draw odds were removed only after he became WC. Even Kramnik retained his PCA title by drawing with Peter Leko!. Anand is not assertive enough to make any demands from FIDE. H’ever it is now apparent that his grey cells and energy levels are flagging just a wee bit – that is all it takes at the pinnacle of chess. Can he make a miracle recovery come November? I’m sure Carlsen has better seconds ( incl Nielsen, though it won’t be admitted ),better super computer to train with, better everything!! The death knell of the ‘old brigade’ is just around the corner!. ‘C’est la vie’.
