We can make a particular puzzle out of this. I posted an update in the comments to Susan’s earlier post on the Mamedyarov-Sokolov game, dittoing it in the “Judit and Shak tie for 1st!” post, where Frederic Friedel pointed out an error in my analysis. Not one that changes the evaluation, but rather shows I made up some transitional moves in my head :-), and I noted it becomes an even better puzzle—how do you defend against 53 Kd4!—?
I’m guessing that its from a grandmaster game that they drew immediately after while there was still plenty of fight in the position.
We need another Bobby Fischer who will play to the kings to bring respect to chess. My comment is meant to refer only to his chess, not his opinions later in life.
Who will the grandmaster be that will do us proud?
Sokolov should take a break from chess.
37…f5 38.Kf3 Kf7 39.a4 Bc5 39.h4 b6 and then it a draw cause all the moves ar matched and covered
Moves after move 49 was shocking to see black is busted. Looks like 51. … Ke4 wins but it’d lose to a shocking trap and queening by force.
51. g5 was a very good move indeed.

Are you out there?
Umm, no, to everyone who said they drew they didn’t, Mame won.
The game is a draw after:
1… g5
2.Kf3 gxf4
3.Kxf4 a6
4.Ke4 Bb2
5.a4 b5
6.axb5 axb5
7.Nd5 Kh7
8.g4 Ba3
9.Kd4 Kh6
10.h4 Bb2+
11.Ke4 Ba3
12. Kd3 Bb2
13.e6 fxe6
14.Nc7 Kg6
15.Nxb5 Bf6
16.Nd4 Bxh4
(If 16…Bxd4 then 17.Kxd4 Kf6 18.Ke4 g6 19.Kd4 Kg7 20.Ke5 Kf7 21.Kd6 Kf6 =)
17.Nxe6 Kf6
18.Nxg7 Kxg7 =
if you play b5 then swap off the minor pieces, do you not win as black as the W king has to go over to the Q side and you mop up?
