I first followed Ray’s progress a few years ago. But I officially met Ray and his father for the first time at the SPICE Spring Invitational at Texas Tech University earlier this year. I am very impressed by the talent, maturity, and commitment by both Ray and his family. I am most impressed with his personality and demeanor. He is just a normal kid who happens to love chess. I see absolutely no reason why Ray won’t reach 2700 in the future if he continues to have the passion to this game.
Ray will be back at Texas Tech in September to compete in the SPICE Cup.
Here are the standings at the US Junior Championship:

Here are the final round matchups:
IM Robson – IM Bercys
IM Shankland – GM Lenderman
FM Lee – FM Banawa
CM Coleman –FM Liu
Robson is a nice kid.
Go Ray!
Ray deserves all the success he has and whatever success he’ll get. You can tell he works his heart out for chess and it’s all driven by passion. Chessplayers can all learn from him. He’s a good guy. America needs a chess champion.
At this writing (11 a.m. on Thursday), the last round will just be starting in Wisconsin. Bercys has to win as Black against Robson in order to tie for first with him.
I have a vision…
