In the first two rounds, 12 year old Yifan Hou defeated two 2600+ players at the Aeroflot Open to share the lead! Watch out for her! She will be the next woman to legitimately earn the GM title. I also expect her to be a future Women’s World Champion and a lot more!

Sutovsky looked to be in big doo-doo after 15 e5. But not being in possession of one of them advanced chess programs, I dunno for sure.
if shes so good then let her play against the best men players in the world. im all for allowing women to play in mens tournaments if there good. she wont have an easy time with the men we’ll cut her down to size.
wolverine
What are “illegitimate” ways to earn the GM title?!
Sutovsky played like an idiot and gave away the exchange for no reason. Maybe he should have taken her more seriously!
When you go down the exchange and win it’s a sacrifice. When you go down the exchange and lose its a blunder. Give Sutovsky some slack and Yifan some credit. It was a reasonable looking attempt at the initiative which rapidly panned out badly.
It happens …
Usually when I play a much lower rated players I take it easy 🙁
and lose !!!
coz my opponent is taking me real seriously…
however having said that Emil Sutovsky has no excuse since this is not the first time YiFan pull of a win against her much more fancied opponent.
It happened to Rublevsky in the World team event not long ago.
They all still underestimate her….
(will probably change soon)
Quite: the “legitimately” in the post rather suggests in a nudge-nudge way that someone has illegitimately come by a GM title.
I would hope that this is established fact, and not merely SP’s opinion, or we shall have more intra-community political squabbling.
So, I echo the question ‘Why’ and ask ‘Who’. If this is fact, it should be easy to answer.
g
Suasan,
With all the respect to Hou Yifan, she won due to Sutovsky’s mistakes.
I see only eight women GMs on FIDE active list. All seem easily legitimate, meaning about 2500 or above except for the Zhaoqin Peng 2431, now of Netherlands. Somehow I doubt Susan is referring to her, so I’m lost.
I do wonder how Peng, who has never crossed 2500, earned the title. Perhaps Susan is referring to earning at, say, the World Junior Championship rather than outright cheating.

Yifan also won because she was able to play a long series of moves without making a mistake.
All chess victories are due to mistakes, only their degree varies.

Anyways guys, not to start on the kramnik – topa again but I had a game in a under2000 tournament and in less than two hours I went to the loo atleast a dozen times as much nervous I was; and we are speaking about a torunament for players rated under 2000 let alone a world championship match.
Rastamann
true Rastamanna – I agree with you.
Hi Susan,
What was Judit’s ELO rating when she was 12?
Just curious.Would be interesting to compare the development of J.Polgar and H.Yifan.
judit’s rating at the age of 12: 2555
Legitimately earning the GM title = acheiving 3 norms and a 2500 rating. Every woman GM has not done this. Susan was the first to do so.
Wolverine,
are you denegrating her accomplishments because she is 12 or because she is a female? I wonder if you would last more than a dozen moves against a GM much less be able to beat one.
You must have been a veritable Bronstein when you were 12. I sure your creativity astounded your adult competition. Perhaps you are a GM. If so do you take pleasure in “cutting down to size” any of your 12 year old opponents. Do you call them patzers and sneer at them when they lose to you?
All things considered I think it’s a wonderful accomplishment to be able to beat a GM at the age of 12.
it has nothing to do with her being 12 or female its about the game she played against suveskty. she didnt use any creativity. suvetsky was pressing for the win and lost. she didnt beat him. last 12 moves?????? i beat chess engines rated much higher than her on a regular basis. i was rated 2600 in checkers before i started playing chess. think before you speak. now the obvious comment is then go prove it. i know exactly what an idiot like you is going to say after i make these claims. i dont have to prove anything to you. im in canada thats the reason i havnt joined a chess federation we have no chess tournaments here and the federation is a joke. if i was in new york city itd be a different story. theres lots of good players out there that havnt joined any chess or checkers federations. i make these comments because i understand the game ten times as well as you do you complete moron! you couldnt analyse a game between 1200 novice players.
wolverine
lol…so you are an undiscovered GM living in Canada who regularly beats chess engines at GM+ level and the only reason you are untitled is because your deferation is week? Riiiiight. Please. Oooh, you were 2600 in checkers…how intimidating. lol. I’d like to see an example of your “creativity”. Show us one of your games where you beat an engine playing at GM+ level.

………..
I absolutely agree with the above post. I would like to see your game where you beat chess engines rated at GM level.
Even GMs have problem beating chess engines rated at their level due to the fact that engines don’t make mistakes.
Its obvious wolverine is just bull$hiting. And the most annoying thing is he doesn’t even lie intelligently. Get a better story if u want to fake your so “great” chess abilities
you think checkers is easy? have you even played the game. its just as hard as chess. your a complete joke. actually i emailed the canadian chess federation a few times and the people didnt even email me back. then i looked for tournaments around where i live and theres none. the only chess tournaments are about 8 hours away. actually i did save a game between me and arasan 9.3 on my 3 ghz pentium 4. by the way the higher the ghz mchine the better the engine plays. i played black as i usually do because i try and find wins with black. that i feel makes me a better player than finding wins with white.

are you kidding me. you think i have to lie to low life creeps like you. the only reason i bring it up is because the degenerate comments on my analysis of this game. i didnt say i win every time against these engines i said i can beat them. they usally beat me but sometimes i can find wins against them. theres always losers like you that think everyone is lieing or cheating. i had the same thing happen to me when i beat people in checkers that were known to be using computers. the only way they couyld compete againsst me online was to cheat with computers. you people are a joke. seriously get a freaking life. you have no ability and thats why you find it hard to believe thats theres people out there not in a chess federation that could kick the crap out of you anytime anywhere in chess or checkers!!!
wolverine
another thing about the comment that machines dont make mistakes. of course they make mistakes. they dont play perfectly. in fact gnu 5.07 which is around 2500 computer elo makes alot of mistakes especially in its end game. if you can get to the end game with gnu which isnt that hard you can almost gurantee for gnu to make a completly ridiculous move that allows you to win the game. as ridiculous as hanging its queen or allowing for an easy fork. the only machines that are closing in on not making mistakes are rybka or fritz 10 both of which i dont play.
wolverine
Wolverine,
ROFL!
I find bloggers like you hilarious. I really don’t know if you believe what you are telling us but it’s good for a laugh. So because we disagree with your comments (you provide NO analysis in any of your posts) we are idiots and low-lifes?
BTW, are you really claiming that the above game was between you and a 2600 rated computer? Are sure it wasn’t Chess on an Atari 2600? What kind of computer plays 20. Rae1?? and 21. Re8?? These are moves that my Commodore 64 running Chessmaster 2000 would have played 20 years ago…if it were on an easy level.
you think computers dont make mistakes your wrong. it took me a long time before i could beat computers in checkers. the skills i learned in checkers of attacking weak pieces and defending my own weak pieices have transfered over to chess. id say about 75% of what i learned in checkers in terms of logic and strategy i transfered to chess. i used to get beat bad by computers but i keep learning and perefecting my moves. thats the move arasan played and obivously probaly a mistake but it played the move i didnt!!!!!!! gnu plays even worse moves sometimes completly allowing simple novice elo forks. the programs could have bugs who knows what causes these moves but they happen. just like what causes kramnik to hang his piece against fritz 10. computers make mistakes and humans make even more mistakes. thats just the way it goes.
wolverine
This wolverine character is egregiously stupid.
hahahaha
wolverine
I just looked through your game against the so called “GM rated” computer program..
it was really good for laughs..
you’re obviously the village champ who thinks he is world class material.
And the fact that u don’t play in any real OTB tourny just helps u with that illusion of yours.
So my advice to u wolverine..
dream on ….
just don’t try to make intelligent comments here
coz u don’t have any..
its hilarious how no talent creeps can only try and blast me with low life comments. get some talent before you make comments. seriously 1200 elo players trying to get my attention. i mean come on you can do better than that. your just those kind of people that so badly want to be good but will never be good. the kind of losers that make one good move and squeal thinking they’ve won the game. then i smack you around and make you into a punk. think all you want man it means nothing to me. your not qualified to understand a good comment or good moves. you have no skills. how can you even tell a good comment from a bad one. your laughing at a game you probaly dont even understand? you make fun of arasan 9.3 are you kidding me.its a strong program. i only brought this up because i made a comment on this game and the usual losers have to start heckling. i didnt bring it up to make myself look good but you losers dragged me into your bullshit. you guys are a joke. ill bet you cant solve one of these problems on here. i solve most of them. no computer no nothing. get some skills!!! anyone can just make lowlife comments but what understanding do you have of chess. absolutly nothing. i dont need to join a federation to prove anything. ill join anyways just so i can kick the shit out of you americans. one of the reason i havnt joined is that theres not alot of tournaments and the ones they have are far from where im located. when i join i want to be good not just below average punching bags like you losers. for the record with no training at all i was able to beat online programs probaly 1500 elo. thats with no practicing at all. my starting point in chess is probaly higher than you losers have after playing for years . its my fault i can beat some machines??? get better material and come backs than your worthless comments. oh and the good thing is even after playing a few hours a day for the past year im still improving. i havnt even come close to reaching my peak. do you even understand any of the openings that are used. can you even calculate more than a couple moves in your head. i doubt it. if you had skills i would take your comments seriously but because your about the same level as a monkey at the zoo ill just throw your comments away into the trash.
wolverine
This “wolverine” isn’t more than 1650 judging by this eyesore of a game. Get lost and back to checkers, where you’re probably also 1650.
I wonder if “wolverine” is John Pyyka?
His posts here certainly have the bad manners and boastful attitude he has become well known for in Canada.
Hey wolverine,
If you’re ever on ICC I would be glad to wipe the floor with you in a game for two. By the looks of your game against the supposedly “GM-rated” program, it would be a walk in the park for me.
My handle on ICC is CruciFixation – let me know if you ever want to get beat.
