Yes, it is nice to see young scholastic players having the chance to play such great players as Susan Polgar. We should always be looking for ways to give kids these great opportunities as it will increase their interest in the game and maybe help to keep their interest in the game as they make the transformation into an adult (as that is the time when many people give up the game).
Susan – will you be making any visits to Crossville TN in the near future? If so, my 14 yr old niece and I would like to pay a visit to USCF HQ. She is a relative newcomer to Chess, but is totally absorbing everything about the game, it’s history, etc. She reads your blog(s), and would be thrilled to meet you. She and I are campaigning for a chess program in her middle school, and so far things look promising.
We live in Southern KY, about 2 hours from Crossville.
She has commented that if she could vote for you in the election, she would.
Go Derek! Lucky kid!
I’ve met Derek and his mom at several local chess tournaments. He’s a nice young man and has the full support of his parents for his chess activity.
