i think its a draw. if on the first variaiton the queen makes the mistake white Kf1 black Qh3+ white Kg1 then the game is a win by white. this one was fairly hard im sure others will say it was easy but i dont care. i didnt think it was.
Wolverine2121, your solution is not exact. I diverged from your analysis, at the bolted move below 1. Rxh7+ Kxh7 2. Rxh7+ Kxh7 3. Qe4+ Kh8 4. f7+ Rg7 5. Bxg7+ ( instead of yours 5. Qg6 which gives black the opportunity to retaliate with checks Kxg7 6. Qg6+ Kf8 7. Qg7+ Ke8 8. Qe7 mate
I found this puzzle has the merit of discovering exactly how to continue after the 1st move. Finding the right 1st move is a key to finding the solution but still one has to analyze exactly how to work it out. Sometimes I tend to be too quick. i.e, in this example I have completely overseen Black’s 2..Kh6. Hope I clarified myself. Thanks AB
Rxh7+ Kxh7 Qe4+ Kh8 f7+ Rg7 Qg6 Bc5+ Ke1? Qh4+ … Bd4 (No immediate mate threat, white needs solve a lot of problem and looks like black can at-least hold and possibly win)
Rxh7+ Kxh7 Qe4+ Kh8 f7+ Rg7 Qg6 Bc5+ Ke2 Qh2+ and black can give perpetual checks on Qh1 and Qh2. White king cannot get protection. It cannot enter a3/b3/d3/e3. Also the bishop cannot be moved in a1-h8 AND coming in-between black’s queen and whites king. This line I see only a draw.
1. Rxh7+ Kxh7 2. Qa7+ Kh6 3. Bd2+ Rg5 4. Qg7+ Kxh5 5. Qh7++ (This is ignoring the futile interposes of …Rb7 & …Qd7 🙂 (I mention this because as far as I’m concerned, a perfect defense maximizes the move count until checkmate.)

Before the famous “verbal election USCF war” started, it was fun to discuss errors and / or plans or variations or even chess items in real time – it is no fun anymore to find the same errors, plans, solutions or proposals – e.g. five hours later – again and again.
Your chess blog, dear GM Susan Polgar, was the very best chess website, i’ve ever seen around, that’s why i visited the site often and regularly and why i tried to contribute my best chess knowledge (not a famous one, of course, but mine…) in some detailed endgame or position analysis or some other items and i always enjoyed the skillful discussion with other chess enthusiats.
Bad luck: since politics spilled over into this blog, it went to be a shadow of itself…
Rxh7+ followed by Qe4+ followed by a B check looksunstoppable.
Anyway, it’s good for at least a draw!

Qf8 would be followed by Rg2+, Bc1+, and death by Qh4.
Qd4+ instead of Qf8 draws.
Rxh7+ Kxh7
Qe4+ Kh6
Bd2+ Rg5
Qg6++
Rxh7+ Kxh7
Qe4+ Kh8
f7+ Rg7

here i know black will have to keep checking me or its mate Qxg7. im not going to work out that many moves.
After Qg6, Qa7+ draws, since Black can keep checking on the first and second ranks. If the White K goes to e3, Bc1+ will devastate.
Wolverine, how about leaving your comment up this time?

Here’s my guess:
1. Rxh7+ Kxh7
2. Qa7+ Kh6
3. Bd2+ Rg5
4. Qg7+ Kxh5
5. Qh7++
(This is ignoring the futile
interposes of …Rb7 & …Qd7 🙂

the move count until checkmate.)
my opinion – maybe i stand alone with it:

1. Rxh7 + !! Kxh7
2. Qe7 + !! is the right move.
All continuations with 2. Q-e4+ , are wrong! Including mine, posted earlier!
