Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
Hi Susan,
I enjoy this blog…particularly the exercises. Is there any way to get individual replacement pieces for the set you show here? I couldn’t find this set on the USCF Sales website. My German Shepard mangled one of the rooks and I would like to replace it. Thanks for any info.
I was amazed at Shirov’s Rook pseudo sac to win this game!
I hope Shirov will go on and win this tournament clearly.
I was sad to read that he dropped out against Aronian but perhaps he is slowly coming to his old strength, again.
Wasn’t he #3 player for a long time? What did happen when did he crush?
Whatever…. go Shirow!
Jochen
Shirov indeed has been ranked 3th of the world, and has been a top-10 player for quite a while. He has a demanding style and it’s never boring.
With such a style you have more decisive games, win or loose, than the positional guys.
Many commentposts during his matches against Adams and Aronian have undervalued this player. He “made” most of the games.
Good sportsmanship by Shirov – he did not want to accept the free halfpoint against Rublevski, but the referees insisted.
He was brave agains van Wely too but got crushed
