Wilton students from Miller-Driscoll place first in chess competition

Students from Miller-Driscoll school placed first in the 70th American Chess Teachers’ Association chess tournament, which was held on Sunday, Dec. 2, at East School in New Canaan. Totaling the individual achievements of Miller second graders Cameron Berg, Will Sullivan and Duncan Vogel, along with Driscoll second grader Christopher Curtice, Miller-Driscoll placed first with a total of 11 points out of a possible 16.
Cameron won second place in the Primary Open section of the tournament, where eight students competed. Will won fourth place in the Primary Novice section, with Christopher placing fifth and Duncan placing seventh out of a total of 18 students.
The students are part of a Wilton Continuing Education program held each Wednesday from 3:30 to 4:45, taught by Julio C. Maldonado for the past three years.
