For the first time, there will be a woman competing as one of the six players from the Air Force in the upcoming Interservice Chess Championships which will feature the top 6 military players from the Air Force, Army, Navy and Marine Corps in Tucson AZ (June 8-14) at Davis Monthan Air Force Base.
Her name is AC1 Elena V. Dulger, from Hill AFB. This is the first time ever a woman has qualified from ANY service.
Special thanks to Kris D’Alessandro of the US Army CFSC for sending me this news.
Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
There is no such thing as an AC1.
She is an A1C (Airman 1st Class)
1729 get you in the top 6. I wonder how strong are the other five players.
A 1729 rating is kind of low, even for the sixth player. The Air Force used to field stronger teams.
Well, she had a 2000+ performance rating at the qualifier (and gained 100 rating points). She had 2 wins and a draw against experts, and finished with 4.5/7.
