1-3. Kramnik, Leko, Gustafsson 1½
4-5. Mamedyarov, Nepomniachtchi 1
6-8. Ivanchuk, van Wely, Naiditsch ½
I am not sure why there is a need to have a rest day after 2 rounds for a 7 round tournament. But today is a rest day at the Dortmund tournament. Round 3 will resume on Tuesday.
Round 3 Pairings:
Naiditsch – Kramnik
Ivanchuk – Nepomniachtchi
van Wely – Leko
Mamedjarow – Gustafsson

They’re tired from the 4 draws in round 1.
It is rather extreme to have a rest day after just 2 games.
Actually, I think 2 days of play and a rest on each third day would make the perfect tournament & match schedule.
Remember the old days when Karpov & Korchnoi/Kasparov played their WCC matches it was just three games per week!
…and they had 3 individual rest days EACH to take on short notice whenever they wanted !!!
Actually, such rest days might encourage more fighting chess the next day. At least something to try, I guess!
After round 4, there will be another rest day. Thats two rest days for a 7 round tournament. I think first 4 rounds, rest day, and last 3 rounds would be more than enough.
More rest days, more fighting chess – thats only in theory.
“More rest days, more fighting chess – thats only in theory.”
Exactly, especially if you consider who is participating.
Ivanchuk is going to win tomorrow.
Easy Puzzle:
Anybody looking from the organizer’s perspective will find the solution for the 2 rest-days immediately:
The tourney covers two week-ends in order to allow working people to visit on 4 days of the tourney. It starts on Saturday of the first week-end end ends on Sunday of the second week-end. That makes 9 days in total for 7 rounds. Therefore it amounts to 9-7 = 2 rest-days.
That was easy !!!

Kamsky – topalov will 8 games in three weeks … they should play only 4 games in three months …
