Kramnik is playing in his first tournament in a while in Dortmund. However, the lowest seed is stealing the show. German Jan Gustafsson is leading the tournament with 2 rounds to go over big names such as Kramnik, Leko, Mamedyarov, and Ivanchuk, etc.
The July 2008 FIDE rating list is finally out with Carlsen at #6 since FIDE kept its word by not rating Foros for this list.
1 Anand, Viswanathan g IND 2798
2 Morozevich, Alexander g RUS 2788
3 Kramnik, Vladimir g RUS 2788
4 Ivanchuk, Vassily g UKR 2781
5 Topalov, Veselin g BUL 2777
6 Carlsen, Magnus g NOR 2775
Greetings from Sardinia! It’s Saturday Open Forum. The forum is yours. What would you like to discuss?
Hi all! Great blog!
Could someone please explain why is there two different world champions and two different world championship?
In one there´s Topalov and kamsky in the other there´s anand and kramnik?
What are the rules and which is the organization behind?
Thanks
There’s no 2 world championships. There’s only 1 which is Anand vs Kramnik. Kamsky is just playing a qualifying match against Topalov.
Susan is holding a very nice antique Jaques Staunton set in its Carton Pierre box.
tks anony, interesting i was wondering why the big smile, ja
ruben its a long story but theres a crack in the system just like a film called perfect crime with anthony hopkins, i think it came out last year, well thers a schism, it started back in the year 1993 if im not mistaken, but in my personal opinion theres no longer just one champion, if i had to choose one, i would chose an electronic one!!! like fritz10 orr 11 or 55 ja like shark 33, jja
well susan whats sardina like? is it as liberal as greece, which country is hotter greece or italy??
i think im a little disappointed about the chap torre, it sucks doesnt it. well tks for the great blog, yours sicerely, jb.
ruben –
If the others haven’t made it clear, Kamsky and Topalov are playing a candidates match, and the winner will play in the next World Championship match, against the winner of Anand – Kramnik.
Magnus should be allowed to play the winners of both Topa and Gata match and Drawnik and Vishy.
I would sell it on pay per view and put chess on the map in the USA!
I bonus round can be a to-the-death cage match between Rustam Gata and Danilov!
And why should Carlsen be given that free pass?
He had his chance a little more than half a year ago, but lost in the semi-final of the World cup. Since then he had a good run, but that is not enough to become the World champion. Constant results over longer period are needed. We’ll see if he can mantain this form. If he can he will surely win the Grand Prix and will have the chance to become world champion by the end of 2010 (or early 2011).
What was/is killing the world championship cycles are the free passes. I hope that after this matches we are through with free passes for good.
I thought that lying idiot BL has been banned from this blog and many other forums?
I think that coward is afraid of Texas 🙂 Big mouth, small brain. I guess they don’t tolerate that kind of trash there.
