Sunday night chess tactic Chess tactic, Puzzle Solving White to move. What is the best continuation for White? Source: ChessToday.net Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
1. Bxh6
The easy line is 1..Kxh6 and than White follows with the thematic Rook lift 2. Re3
The more beautiful line follows 1..gxh6 . Than White plays:
2. Nf6+ ! Bxf6
3. Bd3+ Kh8 only move
4. Qe4 and mate on h7.
If on the second line Black avoids taking the Knight and prefers 2..Kh8 than 3. Qh5 seals it.
Did I miss something?
Impressive play by Howell. England still produces very strong talented players. Nice to see.
best wishes
What if
1. Bxh6 Black avoids taking the Bishop and plays 1..Rg8 ?
I think 2. Ng5+ is the most adequate reply, taking advantage of the unprotected f7 pawn.
Best wishes
If 1…Kxh6, 2.Re3 would not be enough for white to win as black could respond with 2…g6 and making heaven for his king at g7. The best continuation after 1…Kxh6 is 2.Qh3+, Kg6 and 3.g4, threatening mate on h5, its defenseless.
Right shyamal.
Thanks for the improvement slash correction.
