This needs some comments: 1. Rxf7 Kxf7
Black does not need to play this, he can just try to concede the pawn:
– 1. … Nf8 2.Rf4(?) +=
– 1. … Nf8 2.Rxg7(!) Kxg7 3.d5+ Kf7 (Kg8 4.dxe6 +-) 4.dxe6+ Ke7 and I do not see a quick mate 2. Bf1 Qxf1
– 2. … Qa4 3.Qxe6+ Kf8 4.Bc4 and mate on f7 can only be prevented with huge costs: 4. … Ne5 5.dxe5 Rd7 6.Qxd7 Kg8 3. Kxf7 +-
And now how does white proceed? Black is threatening to take control of the e-file with Re8 (see below). Checking from e7 forcing the king to g8 doesn’t seem to accomplish anything. So, we seem to be left with 3.Bf1, but this is now way too slow since white has already sacrificed a rook….
3. Bf1 Re8!
And white has no good options- he could exchange the queen and rook for black’s two rooks at e8, then take at b5, but after cxb5, white is down a piece, and the same is pretty much true if white plays 4.Bxb5. I think Alena is correct- after 1. …Kf7, white has to play 2.Bf1.
And, also, I don’t think 1. ….Nf8 is an improvement over 1. ….Kf7. I actually think it quite a bit worse. What might be worth looking at, as I look this over with more detail, is 1. …Nf6, but I think even that is worse than Kxf7.

5. Qf3! and I think mate can’t be prevented- for example:
5. …………Ne6
6. Qf6 Ke8 (Kd7 7.Qe6#)
7. Qe6 Kf8
8. Qe7 with mate in two more moves.
Is there some reason why White can’t play 2. Q:e6+ after 1. R:f7 K:f7(??)?
Yancey’s line is surely best for Black, but White is still winning.
