2010 Clay fair to host student chess tournament

GREEN COVE SPRINGS — The 2010 Clay County Agricultural Fair will hold a competitive chess tournament that is open to all K-12 students.
All area students are invited to participate in the Scholastic Chess Tournamenton Saturday, April 10, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the fairgrounds’ Community Stage.
Tournament participants receive FREE admission to the fair and every contestant receives an award for participation.
Prerequisites are knowledge of chess rules (especially check, checkmate, and stalemate,) and a desire to meet other students who share a love for this challenging activity. Participants play four games and compete with students in their respective grade divisions (K-2, 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12). Prizes will be awarded to individual division winners.
Pre-registration is required and there is a $10 entry fee that must be received by Saturday, April 3. The tournament organizer is Scott Pfeiffer. He can be reached at (904) 982-9901.
