1 … Kxd3 2 Rd3+ wins the queen 1 … Qxd3 2 Nb2+ wins it, too 1 … Kxb5 2 Nc3+ and Black is forced to play 2 … Kc5 allowing 3 Ne4+ winning the queen again. 1 … Kd4 is met by 2 Rd5+ Kxd5 3 Nc3+ and now: 3 … Kc5 or 3 … Kd6 4 Ne4+ forking K&Q 3 … Ke5+ 4 d4+ wins again: 4 … Kxd4 or 4 … Kf4 5 Ne2+, 4 … Kd6 5 Ke4+
In all these lines, the closest Black comes to surviving material-wise is 1 … Kd4 2 Rd5+ Kxd5 3 Nc3+ Ke5 4 d4+ Kf4 5 Ne2+ Kf3 6 Nxg3, but here Black can’t recapture because the d pawn will queen too fast.
d3+ either draw because repeated checks or black looses the queen
Let’s try to be precise
1.d3+!!
I)1…Kxb5 2.Nc3+ Kc5 3.Ne4+! +-
II)1…Qxd3 2.Nb2+
III)1…Kxd3 2.Rb3+
IV) 1…Kd4 2.Rd5+!Kxd5 3.Nc3+
A)3…Kd6 4.Ne4+!
B)3…Kd4 4.Ne2+
C)3…Kc5 4.Ne4+!
D)3…Ke5 4.d4+!
i)4…Kd6 5.Ne4+!
ii)4….Kxd4 or Kf4 5.Ne2+
Hope i’ve beaten Romero and Hubner’s records in the field of endless variations ^^
I guess d3+ might be a little surprising.
If Qxd3 then Nb2+ forks king and queen
If Kxd3 Rb3 wins the queen
And if KxR then Nc3+ forces Kc5 allowing Ne4+ again forking K & Q
Rb6 for the best ploay
1 d3+
1…Qxd3 loses the queen after 2 Nb2+ after which White wins
1…Kxb5 force looses the queen after 2 Nf3+ Kc5 3 Ne5+ and White wins
1…Kxd3 again loses the queen after 2 Rb3+ and White wins
1…Kd4 2 Rd5+ Kxd5 3 Nc3+ and now either one of 3…Kd4, 3…Kd6 or 3…Kc5 will lose the queen to 4 Ne4+ or 4 Ne2+
Wow, what a cool puzzle! I think 1 d3+ wins:
1 … Kxd3 2 Rd3+ wins the queen
1 … Qxd3 2 Nb2+ wins it, too
1 … Kxb5 2 Nc3+ and Black is forced to play 2 … Kc5 allowing 3 Ne4+ winning the queen again.
1 … Kd4 is met by 2 Rd5+ Kxd5 3 Nc3+ and now:
3 … Kc5 or 3 … Kd6 4 Ne4+ forking K&Q
3 … Ke5+ 4 d4+ wins again: 4 … Kxd4 or 4 … Kf4 5 Ne2+, 4 … Kd6 5 Ke4+
In all these lines, the closest Black comes to surviving material-wise is 1 … Kd4 2 Rd5+ Kxd5 3 Nc3+ Ke5 4 d4+ Kf4 5 Ne2+ Kf3 6 Nxg3, but here Black can’t recapture because the d pawn will queen too fast.

d3+ looks good, followed by Nc3+ and Ne4+ with a fork. (Or Nb2+ if the Q takes on d3.) Phil
After a few minutes’ thought, I arrived at this:
1. d3+ Kd4 (1…Kxb5? 2. Nc3+ Kc5 3. Ne4+) 2. Rd5+! Kxd5 3. Nc3+ Ke5 4. d4+! and any king move allows a knight fork, winning the queen and the game.
Nice,
1.d3+ Kd4 (1…Kxb5 2.Nc3+ and Ne4+)
2.Rd5+! Kxd5 3.Nc3+ Ke5 4.d4+! and wins queen next move
Actually:
Nc3+ Kd4 (is forced)
Ne2+ picks up the queen 1-0
or
d3! Kd4
Rd5+!! KxR
Nc3+ winning the queen next move…
White has an unusually fortunate position.
Actually it’s
Nc3+ Kd4 (is forced)
Ne2+ picks up the queen 1-0
or
d3! Kd4
Rd5+!! KxR
Nc3+ winning the queen next move…
White has an unusually fortunate position.
with only Rb6 posted Deep, Dark and Dummy saya d3+ with Rd5+ wins the Queen.
If you’ve done many Troitzky problems this one is a snap.
1 d3 wins the queen in all lines.
d3
d3 is the best move I think because:
d3 + , Kxb5
Nc3 +, Kc5
Ne4 + Wining the Queen
If d3 +, Qxd3
Nb2 + winning the Queen
If: d3 +, Kd4
Rd5 +, Kxd5
Nc3 +, Rd4 (Kc5, Ne4 + wining the Queen)
Ne2 + wining the Queen
If: d3 + Kd4
Rd5 +, Kxd5
Nc3 +, Ke5
d4 +, Kd6 (Kxd4 or Kf4, then Ne2, wining the Queen)
Ne4 + wining the Queen
1. d3+ Kxb5 (1.. Kxd3 2. Rb3+ or
1.. Qxb3 2. Nb2+
2. Nc3+ Kc5
3. Ne4+
1-0
Needs to add an important line:
1. d3+ Kd4
2. Rd5+ Kxd5
3. Nc3+ Ke5
4. d4+ and N(f2/e4) forks queen/king next move
1-0
d3 gives knight fork in all variations
1.d3! Kd4 2.Rd5+! Kxd5 3.Nc3+ Ke5 4.d4+ wins
1.d3+ Kxb5
Queen and King capture of the pawn fall to black knight forks.
2.Nc3+ Kc5 3.Ne4+ is my suggestion
1 d3+ Kd4
2 Rd5+ Kxd5
3 Nc3+ Ke5
4 d4+ K somewhere
5 Night fork
for instance.
