Serbia and Alisa Maric Join Karpov2010
Jun 12, 2010
Serbia is one of the world’s great chess powers. Alisa Maric is one of their greatest-ever players. It is a great honor to welcome them both to the Karpov2010 team. WGM Maric joins the Karpov ticket as a candidate for FIDE Vice President. Her long list of accomplishments extends well beyond the chessboard. She holds a PhD in Economics and is a professor in the Faculty of Culture and Media. A formidable addition to the new leadership of FIDE, without any doubt! You can read more about her at her official website.
Some impressive statistics on the powerhouse that is Serbian chess today. 51 GMs, 12 WGMs, 97 IMs, 14 WIMs, 291 FMs, 24 WFMs, In total: 489 titled players and 2717 rated players. This amazing tradition has deep roots. The names Gligoric, Ivkov, and Ljubojevic echo through decades of chess history, and the list could go on. Belgrade has hosted many legendary events while Novi Sad hosted the Olympiad in 1990.
What’s the deal with the “spelling” of the word STATESMENT? Who wrote this? Did anyone bother to check? And we want people like this to run FIDE?
I thought Maric is an IM which is higher than WGM. So why did her own federation insult her by listing her as WGM?
WGM is higher title than IM. Serbia is cool!
In which planet WGM is higher than IM? Planet Karpov?
WGM Maric is not married by the ways. I also think WGM is better title than IM. After all its Grandmaster!!
