Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
How is it possible for Carlsen to lose?
Watching the game live online, it appeared to me that Carlsen was playing very quickly in the 55-75 move area, and was trying to push Vachier-Lagrave into deeper time pressure. This type of position probably is tough for the computer program on Chessbomb to evaluate correctly, but at several points it gave Vachier-Lagrave a 1 to 1.5 pawn advantage that would then revert to even. However, at one point it gave Vachier-Lagrave a 2.5 pawn advantage and he then pushed f4 to break open the kingside and then exchanged queens. The computer evaluated that as not as good as possible, but when white exchanged a pair of rooks, black’s h-pawn could not be saved, and black’s king ended up trapped on the 8th rank along with his rook, and the passed black f-pawn proved no counter to the penetration of white’s king to g6.
Lets go Morozevich!!!!!!
We must forgive Carlsen as it must be difficult for him to play at his best when his countrymen are suffering a senseless tragedy.
