Pinoys share early lead in Malaysia Open Chess

MANILA, Philippines – Filipino International Masters (IMs) Oliver Barbosa and Oliver Dimakiling overwhelmed their foes to share the early lead with 13 other players in the 8th Dato’ Arthur Tan Malaysia Open Chess 2011 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Barbosa defeated Grandmaster (GM) Saidali Iuldachev of Uzbekistan in the first round then subdued fellow Filipino National Master (NM) Edgar Reggie Olay in the second round.
Dimakiling, on the other hand, beat Woman Fide Master (WFM) Helen Milligan of New Zealand and Chen Yibo of China to remain unbeaten after 2 rounds.
The tournament is participated by 98 contestants from England, Germany, France, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Australia, China, India, Vietnam, Iran, Indonesia, Republic of South Africa, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Libya, Japan, Fiji, Hongkong, Brunei, Philippines and Malaysia.
