Why on earth isn’t this kid World Champion??? Someone answer me, for it no longer makes sense for our sport.
I am here struggling to explain to my wife (a big sports enthusiast but non-chess player) about how Carlsen is rated No. 1, has the highest rating ever, but isn’t the world chess champion. And to her and probably to many other people, IT MAKES NO SENSE!!
To Anon ” Susan, I have only one question:…. Carlsen needs to qualify ( win the upcoming candidates tournament ) to challenge the World Champion. That is how it has always been. The greatest, ‘Bobby Fischer’ also had to sweat blood to do the same. After all, for a time Wozniacki was number one on the tennis scene, but she never won a Slam. No comparison of course, just making a point. Anand stayed the course to get where he did, surely the ‘great’ Carlsen can do the same. I guess he should be able to tire out Anand in a long drawn out match, being half his age and with his tendency to play on until only Kings are left on the board!
Kasparov who?
Carlsen Superman!
