Who will win this event?
Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
Veselin Topalov
This was very interesting last year. Last year Topalov was the new fide champ and he got killed in mexico and won them in Spain. Kind of a strange way to play a tournament.
Last year at this time I was a Topalov fan and felt that he was spending too much time attending ceremonies every day and was distracted from his chess in Mexico.
It will be interesting to see what happens this year. I do not expect a repeat of last year. I am sure he will do better in Mexico this year.
I think it is very nice for Mexico to get this opportunity to share in such a prestegious tournament. I think it is good for chess.
I think there were a few players last year who wanted another extra travel day over what was provided. If my memory is correct, they had 2 or 3 days and I guess they wanted one more day to get better adjusted. Considering that the 2nd have scores were so different from the first half scores maybe that is a good idea. Susan might have an idea of how easy it is to travel and play.
I know who will not: Carlsen. He is out of sorts in this elite group.
Veselin Topalov 2783
Viswanathan Anand 2779
Peter Leko 2749
Levon Aronian 2744
Alexander Morozevich 2741
Teimour Radjabov 2729
Peter Svidler 2728
Magnus Carlsen 2690
Topalov ain’t 2813.
moro
After Corus, the updated ratings are (from 64.ru)
Topalov 2791
Anand 2774
Kramnik 2770
Aronian 2757
Moro 2752
Leko 2751
Raja 2744
So there are 6 of the 7 highest rated players participating in Linares this year. It will be a great tournament.
I like Morozevich, Radjabov, Aronian most.. I feel like Topalov will do better than them but well, I don’t know..
Why isn’t Kramnik participating?
Leko, he is in great form in 2007.
You will see…
I think this year will be even better than 2006. i had the chance of being there the night Topalov lost vs. Vallejo and can say that I enjoyed this match even when my favorite was Topalov. I personally would like to see Judith Polgar in this tournament. Perhaps next year.
>>I know this may be out of the topic… but if Topalov got signals from his manager.. then how did he play blindfold (in Bilbao) against Judith Polgar and actually won the match.
Recall in the recent Essent 2006.. Judith defeated Topalov twice and this isnt blindfold.
Clearly… this accusation of receiving signals from his manager is false>>
You’re digging yourself a hole here. Let it be enough that there’s no solid evidence that Topalov is cheating. Trying to “prove” his innocence with ridiculous arguments like “He couldn’t have cheated at Wijk because he didn’t cheat at Essent” are basically nonsensical and unnecessary.
Oh, it says rating at the time of the invitation.
Morozevich for me too.
Leko.
One thing is certain.
Morozevich has an extremely entartaining style and is very strong.
But he will *not* win any super GM tournament. Period.
Radjabov!!!
I agree with “anonymous” saying that Magnus Carlsen will probably not win this tournament. He did a disappointing tournament at Corus, and though he will certainly give a fight in lots of the games, he is certainly not capable of winning it all already.
But who will win? Maybe Anand?
Where is the World champion ?!?
Apparently no one thinks Anand can win! Sad reputation for longest No2 in the world.
Radjabov! King Indian’s Defence Lives!
Topy
Aronian! I think.
SK
I want Peter S. to win, just so the headlines can read…
“Svidler on the Roof!”
G
I really don’t understand why Carlsen is invited…. he is clearly not at the elite level yet, and there are at least 20 other GM’s that are more deserving than he is…
I really don’t understand why Gata Kamsky isn’t in any of these tournaments, he is over 2700 rated and America’s strongest GM… it’s a shame he doesn’t get invitations…
Topalov or Aronian will win this…and Moro will be humiliated by Topalov.
Topalov is still the stronget player
around
1. Topalov
2. Radjabov
3. Aronian
Anand is over the hill. Moro’s games are always fun to watch–he’ll lose too many here. Leko will draw too many to win. Svidler not in good form and wouldn’t win even if he were. Carlsen invited because he’s an exciting young player who may be world champion some day–not anytime soon though. I agree I’d like to see Kamsky in these super GM tournaments. I’m not sad Kramnik isn’t here because he’s too boring, he wouldn’t win, and he isn’t really the best player, is he.
just a few month back anand was over 2800 which was his best rating ever. he isn’t over the hill. i think he will win.
Are there screens in the playing venue so that spectators can watch the games but the players cannot see outside ? I believe this setup will be very useful for Topalov to regain his credibility. Otherwise the rumors will go on and on.
“Who will win this event?”
You can hate or love him, but you know that the winner will be V.Topalov
I think it will probably Aronian, Topalov or maybe even Radjabov. Anyway, it seems to me that Aronian is probably going to be as strong as Topalov, Anand and Kramnik very soon. If he is not already now.
they can relay the live event with a delay of 1 or 2 moves. this way they can avoid cheating, if there is any.
anand is too nice.. bad boys like topa always seem to have edge is psyc battle.
i like anand’s games, they are well balanced. solid opening preparation, very good middle game and very good endgame.
how old is anand?
I think Anand will win if there is a glass cover in the playing area.Otherwise Topalov will win.
time for moro to show his great ability- lat1
