Chicago Board OKs Plan for 150-Story Tower
AP
CHICAGO (April 20) – The city’s planning board has endorsed a proposal for a twisting lakefront tower that would become the nation’s tallest building.
With Thursday’s approval from the Chicago Plan Commission, the design and site plan for the 2,000-foot Chicago Spire goes to the city zoning committee next week.
“This is a wonderful project, and everyone is very enthused,” said Constance Buscemi, spokeswoman for the city’s planning department.
The 150-story tower, which would feature 1,200 residences, would unseat Chicago’s 1,451-foot Sears Tower as the tallest U.S. building. It would also top New York’s 1,776-foot Freedom Tower, under construction at the former World Trade Center site.
Here is the full story.
What is your opinion about a project like this? Would you live in one of these 100+ story building?
I wouldn’t live in such a building.
Such structures may represent an alluring target for terrorist organizations who want to inflict damage to the United States and attract maximum world attention.
I feel the same way. I don’t want to be the sitting duck on the 99th floor 🙂
*idiots*
The probability of you dying on your way to work is much much greater than being shot down.
I drive past the site every day: great concept, great location. Financing is the biggest hurdle (there are no pre-sales).
I did like the iteration before this one somewhat better, but

oops: “I did like the iteration before this one somewhat better, but …” this one is more commercially viable.
Unnecessary hubris.
