The city of Taganrog, Rostov region, hosts the traditional chess festival, commemorating international arbiter Vladimir Yakovlevich Dvorkovich. Alexey Makhov, the acting mayor of Taganrog was among other officials visiting the opening ceremony of the event. Galina Yakovlevna Dvorkovich, widow of Vladimir Dvorkovich, was also present at the opening ceremony.
The main tournament is a 9-round Swiss. 76 players from Russia, Ukraine, and Mongolia will compete for the main prizes. Among them are two grandmasters, four international masters, and nine FIDE masters. Nikita Matinyan (Russia) is the highest rated player.
Grandmaster Alexander Galkin gave a simul on the first day. There was also a blitz tournament for 24 players, won by the Mongolian FIDE master Enkhnar Enkhbaatar. Among the planned events are junior and senior competitions and master classes of grandmaster Nikolay Pushkov.
