Chesspark raises $1 million
By Leo Blanco July 13, 2007
Chesspark.com, an innovative new online chess community, has completed an investment round with angel investor Jon Callaghan of True Ventures, Burnt Norton, Inc. and Eaglebrook School to raise a total of $1 million. This will be used to complete public beta test and assure timely full-featured product launch this 3rd Quarter of the year.
This new chess Web site aims to provide the best chess playing experience on the web by offering a flexible and fun gaming environment for chess players worldwide, a social network for players, tournaments, lessons and team play.
“With over 100,000 users already enrolled in the beta test we have been able to refine and perfect our gaming platform. As we finish up some exciting additional features in coming weeks we remain on course to launch the best subscription-based experience for chess players,” says Jack Moffitt, co- founder of the venture.

Not a bad deal. Can’t wait to see what they have to offer.
hard to believe someone is putting up money to compete with ICC. This is the first time I have heard of this web site. I hope it is good. There is some disatisfaction with ICC. It could be better but it slowly improves with time.
I can only guess that one of the strengths of ICC is that they give titled players free membership. Lots of people want to watch games by the GM’s etc. And of course the GM’s need to play where there are other GM’s. they dont look to play the newbies.
Competition might be good for the chess players of the world.
If dissatisfacted with ICC then move to playchess.com, as all their other users before.
Thanks for the post. We’re doing Chesspark out of love for the game, and already have GMs and IMs playing regularly. We still have lots of space to improve, but when our next iteration ships this fall, we’re confident that there won’t be any other Chess playing sites on the web where the experience will come close.
The team is lead by founders of the Green Witch Internet Radio which was sold during the .com boom, who shifted over to Chess out of love for the game.
Our downloadable Windows application is really strong, and the Web application is some of the most advanced AJAX in existence. And the development team is likely the best I’ve ever had a chance to work with. In any case, while today you’ll find Chesspark to be a really cool Chessplaying site, we’re confident that once the official version ships this fall, that folks will find the Chesspark game playing experience to be superior.
Come give it a try.
