Chess congress director steps down after 32 years

Hastings International Chess Congress director, Con Power is standing down after 32 years.

He made the announcement at the annual general meeting on March 21. Congress chairman, Paul Smith, thanked Con for his dedication to the event over such a long period. He was congratulated by colleagues and a presentation of a watch was made to mark his long service.

Con was also awarded the English Chess Federation President’s Award for Services to Chess in 1995 during the Congress centenary year.

Stepping into the director’s role is Alan Hustwayte, who was previously congress secretary. He has long been involved with Hastings Chess Committee and is also involved with other local organisations.
