Koneru Humpy enters Quarter Finals
Humpy, who is yet to lose a game in the tournament, was up against the 16th seeded Alisa Galliamova of Russia in the round of 16. Humpy started off perfectly in the first game and gave no chance for Alisa to break. She wrapped up the first game in no time and set the stage for the second one.
Though Alisa looked to fight back in the second game, Koneru Humpy once again showed her experience to snatch the game. With this win, Humpy has now won six out of six games she has played in the tournament so far and has booked a place in the quarter finals.
Koneru Humpy will face either Mariya Muzychuk or Antoaneta Stefanova in the quarter-finals.
Harika Pushed into Rapid Game
Elsewhere, India’s Harika Dronavalli was pushed into a tie-breaker by fifth seed Alexandra Kosteniuk of Russia in the round of 16. Harika looked poised to enter the quarter finals when she won the first game but Kosteniuk came back strong in the second to force a tiebreaker.
Harika, seeded 12th in the tournament required a tiebreaker to win in the last round as well where she dispatched Irina Krush of United States. If Harika is to win, she will go on to face the winner of Viktorija Cmilyte – Meri Arabidze match.
