Carissa Yip Now Rated 2203
New All Time USCF Record !!!

The USCF Official Tournament Report is in & Carissa Yip is now rated 2203!

This makes her the youngest female ever to break the 2200 mark, beating the record recently set by Annie Wang, of California, by nearly four months.

Congratulations on your inspirational effort to a superb achievement against long odds!

By winning rounds 1 & 3, against class A rated Jeff Caruso, who finished the tournament at 1929 & USCF expert Tim Bromley, who ended with a 2027 rating, respectively, taking a half point bye in the second & not playing round 4, Carissa Yip has increased her USCF rating to the rank of National Master at 2203.

This tournament provided the final two games in what might be described as a four month chess binge consisting of 21 rated games in November, 14 games in December, 32 games in January (including some ICC activity which didn’t count toward her regular rating) & finally 19 games played in February concluding with the February Billerica Swiss which put her over 2200 to an all time high of 2203. That activity rate is nearly double the rate at which she’d been playing for the past year or more & shows evidence of considerable determination & persistence while successfully taking on a steady stream of strong competition.

Carissa Yip is now living the dream of over 99% of all tournament chess players. Who would have guessed that taking the 2014 Wachusett Chess Club Championship by a 7-0 sweep would so soon be considered “only the beginning”?

The Wachusett Chess Club wishes our current Club Champion & now National Master, Carissa Yip all the best in continued chess success. We also wish to commend Percy Yip for his dedicated efforts throughout.
