Dmitry Jakovenko defeated Anish Giri in the 7th round of Tbilisi FIDE Grand Prix to emerge clear second in the standings, half a point behind the leader Evgeny Tomashevsky.
Shakhriyar Mamedyarov scored his third victory with black pieces after Alexander Grischuk blundered a neat queen move. White played an exciting new idea that gave him the upper hand, but one big mistake spoiled the effort.
Baadur Jobava capitalised on Leinier Dominguez’s terrible time trouble where he had to make six moves in only 40 seconds. The Cuban made a mistake on 39th move and was no longer able to save the position.
